Preschools
Preschools in Sandviken provide a nurturing environment for children aged 1–5, offering play and learning close to nature. Sandviken has both municipal and independent preschools, including day and nighttime options, so you can choose what works best for your family.
Elementary school
Elementary schools in Sandviken offer free education that teaches both academic knowledge and democratic values. The goal is to create a positive and welcoming environment where children can grow and develop. When your child turns six, it’s time to apply for a place in preschool class, which is also free and includes up to 20 hours per week.
Independent schools
Sandviken also has the International Montessori School, an independent elementary school. If you’d like your child to attend, you’ll need to contact the school directly, as they manage their own admissions and waiting lists.
High School
High schools in Sandviken offer university preparatory programs and various practical programs. The two high schools in Sandviken Municipality are Bessemerskolan and Göranssonska Skolan, the later being an independent high school.
After school programs
If you’re studying or working, your child can attend an after-school program before and after scheduled school hours and during holidays. After-school care is available for students from preschool class to the year they turn 13.
School transport
Students in preschool class and elementary school are entitled to free school transport if the need exists.
For newly arrived children and students
All children have the right to education. If you’ve recently moved to Sweden from another country, you’ll need to register to secure a school spot for your child.
